Discipleship FAQ

1. What is D12?

D12 stands for Discipling 12 and is based on the model that Jesus followed when He was ministering on the earth. The groups consist of people just like you who study the Bible and pray together. There is also a felling of confidentially which allows you to share your frustration and pain in a place of compassion. You will be prayed for and loved on and never condemned. We also will mature as we stay accountable to each other. The end product is that you will be released to give your gifts away.

2. What is so different about the D12 groups?

D12 are not just Bible studies but the Bible is studied. We have 34 lessons that are on the website that you can look at and study for yourself. Leaders will also use other books along the way that the group has a desire to study. The big emphasis in the group is about love. We want the 12 of you in the group to have a close relationship that is conducive to you sharing the intimate things in your life that need the Lord’s healing touch. It is also a place for the practical needs of your life to get taken care off by the group. We also want you and a friend to begin a small group and give away what has been given to you. We use the three “R’s” to explain our small groups. Revelation of who the Lord is, Relationship with other believers, and Reproduction.

3. How do I get in a D12 group?

You can call the office 658-7646 and access extension 20, you can email the office at , you can fill out the application in the bulletin, or you can stop by the D12 counter and ask how getting into a group works. The office will assign you to a group and that leader will call or email you and let you know when the next meeting will take place.
What if I don’t like the group? Be sure to give the group a few meetings before you decide it is not for you. However, there are times when the group is not for you and there needs to be a change. Simple call the office or email like was explained earlier and we will find another group for you. It happens so please do not give up if the first group was unsatisfactory.

4. What if my job hours change?

Simply give a call to the office (658-7646 ext. 20) and let Val know and she can suggest another possible groups for you. That is one reason we are trying to get groups on every day every hour so we can match all the time schedules in the congregation. There is a time for you.

5. What do I do with my kids?

There is always child care at the church.

6. Do we have to meet at the church?

No, you can meet at your home or the home of one of the members of your group. We love it when you meet at your home. The only reason the church is used is because we can offer child care at the church.

7. How long are the meetings?

The D12 meetings are designed to last 90 minutes. Some groups stay for fellowship which is up the individual members. We want to be sensitive to your busy schedule.

8. Are the groups confidential?

Yes, everything that is shared stays in the group unless there are things like molestation, betterment, or other things of that nature. We are required by law to report certain things but everything else stays in the group.

9. Are 12 to many people?

I may be. That is why when there is a prayer time the group leaders are asked to have consistent groups of 3. This allows for friendship and confidence to build so that people will be free to share the root problems they are facing.

10. I don’t feel like a leader?

We have the D12 Leadership School to help you out so that you will recognize your gift and know how to give it away. Remember you do not have to start a group on your own.
How many do we need to start a group? You must be in a group before you start a group. We suggest that there are at least three of you and also having a co leader is a great idea.

11. How long am I in this group?

You are in the group until Jesus comes. It takes time for relationship to develop so we do not want to short change the operation. Of course if you change hours at work or have family issues you may most certainly change.

12. How often does the group meet?

We suggest that the groups meet every other week on the same day. Some meet every week because they desire to do that but we suggest just once every other week for 90 minutes.

13. How do I know how to use the materials?

The D12 Leadership School will help you do this and all the lessons are on DVD to help you understand what the theme of the lesson is all about. Your D12 leader is also an important mentor to help you with your group.

14. Can I invite a non believer to come to the meeting?

This is a great idea and one that is encouraged. Many times it is easier for a person who doesn’t go to church to come to a small group where there is a relaxed atmosphere. After they receive Christ, they can be discipled and taken to an Encounter which will really accelerate there growth.

15. What is the make up of these groups?

We have groups for men, groups for women, and groups for couples. You can select which one is best for you and what time you want to meet. If you know people in a group, ask if they have room for you and attend and check it out. Relationship is usually the best entrance point for being a part of a group.
